Pio Cesare was founded in 1881 when its founder, Cesare Pio, a successful entrepreneur, attracted by the idea of producing a small quantity of wine for his family and his clients, decided to start his own company in the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco.
Pio Cesare was founded in 1881 when its founder, Cesare Pio, a successful entrepreneur, attracted by the idea of producing a small quantity of wine for his family and his clients, decided to start his own company in the hills of Barolo and Barbaresco.His resourcefulness, as attested by the authentic copy of his passport n.55, one of the first to be issued in Italy, led him, in the following years, to travel far and wide, throughout Europe, with the aim of promoting his wines, thus transforming something that was born out of pure passion into a real business.It will then be his son, Giuseppe Pio, who will carry on his father's business, investing further in the winery and making a great commitment also on a commercial level; later on, Rosy, Giuseppe's only daughter, and her husband, the Alba engineer Giuseppe Boffa, will further contribute to the company's growth, in fame and notoriety, on the national and international market.Today, Pio, the last of Rosy and Giuseppe's sons and fourth generation of the family, runs the family business, with the support of his cousin Augusto, nephew Cesare and daughter Rosy.Currently, Pio Cesare, owns about 70 hectares of vineyards; the choice to have the vineyards located in different areas is not, then, certainly not accidental, but is determined by the desire to merge and amalgamate the different characteristics of each vineyard and each area, in order to produce wines representative of the style of the totality of the terroirs. Harvest after harvest, the wines of Pio Cesare, maintain the style they have always had over the years, as well as of course a character of great value; this implies low yields, minimum interventions for phytosanitary defence and maniacal selection of the grapes, bunch by bunch, berry by berry.
