The Caprili winery, which extends into the enchanting scenery of the territory of the Municipality of Montalcino, was founded in 1965 by Alfo Bartolommei and has always been linked to a classic and traditional imprint. After years of hard work and sacrifices, in 1965 Alfo from a simple sharecropper became the owner of Podere Caprili, historic property of the Castelli-Martinozzi family, owners of the Villa Santa Restituta estate, planting the first vineyard, nicknamed Madre, and still active today.
The vineyard area of the Caprili winery today is 15 hectares, most of which is cultivated with Sangiovese Grosso, from which the famous Brunello di Montalcino is produced and is located at an altitude ranging from 225 to 340 meters above sea level. . The South-West exposure, on the slope that descends towards the Orcia and Ombrone rivers, the soil of Eocene origin, very stony and rich in minerals, the dry, windy and sunny climate, are the factors that favor a perfect ripening of the grapes . The interventions in the vineyard and in the cellar are reduced to a minimum to allow nature, very generous in these places, to express itself at its best.
Today, alongside Alfo, always at the forefront, we find the sons Paolo, Manuele and Paola and Giacomo, representative of the third generation, in the management of Caprili, who, with great commitment and competence, work to produce wines of the highest quality. Their goal is to increasingly reduce chemical treatments, moving towards a biological and biodynamic perspective. The inauguration of the new winery moves in this direction, step by step, continuing a glorious history of wine and great Brunellos that has been going on for half a century.
