The Romitorio Castle, located north-west of the Montalcino hill, has been owned by Sandro Chia, a leading exponent of the Transavanguardia, since the late 1980s. During the last twenty years, the company's production philosophy has always successfully pursued the pursuit of absolute excellence for its products, obtained thanks to the firm belief in its territory and its skills, preferring quality over quantity. With the 2006 harvest, Castello Romitorio baptized the new winery of the company, a pearl of 3000 square meters, built partially underground at the foot of the ancient castle. In this new winery, Sandro Chia has combined his love for quality wine with the passion he has always had for art, managing to bring together his two greatest loves in a single context.

Monumental sculptures stand next to barrels and barriques, making the environment a very special charm and suggestion. «I create wines with the same passion with which I paint», says Sandro Chio, «it is a sort of devotion, a sacrifice which brings maximum results».
