The Pratesi family has been producing wine in the Carmignano area for five generations. It was Pietro Pratesi who bought the Lolocco property in the heart of Carmignano in 1875, where wine and oil were already produced. And it is precisely in Lolocco that the Pratesi winery produces the best wines in the vineyards planted with high density. The Medici already recognized the production of high quality wine in this small town. In fact, Cosimo III de Medici in 1716 with a Bando delimited four areas dedicated to the production of quality wine, one of these was Carmignano. The first bottled vintage dates back to 1983 but at the time the family produced only 2,000 bottles a year and only of Carmignano. At the end of the 90s Fabrizio Pratesi, entrepreneur of the family with interests outside the agricultural world, begins to take an interest and fall in love with the production of wine. He takes over the family business and begins the construction of a new completely underground cellar. He plants new vineyards for and increases production up to 12,000 bottles.

THE WINES
Shortly thereafter, two new wines are born in addition to Carmignano: in 1999 the Locorosso a pure Sangiovese that expresses all the fruit and freshness of the company territory. In 2001 Fabrizio made an important wine, Carmione, what today is the Camignano Docg of the Pratesi company. Initially born as a blend of cabernet and merlot but over time Fabrizio understands that the Carmignano territory expresses its best if the French blends are combined with the main grape of Tuscany, Sangiovese. In 2012 Fabrizio matures the
decision and conviction to become a full-time winemaker. He buys new land, plants new vineyards and upgrades the cellar equipment. Today the winery produces about 70,000 bottles with 10 hectares of vineyards. The varieties in production are the tradition of the territory, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Fabrizio Pratesi's vineyards are located about 180 meters above sea level in the southernmost area of Carmignano. The composition of the soil is a medium mixture with the presence of clay, they are rich in skeleton, very stony especially of Alberese rock. Thanks to the complexity of the soils and the climate, the wines have a soft and important tannic structure, of great complexity, elegance and with a strong aging capacity. Since 1999 Fabrizio has collaborated with the agronomist and oenologist Stefano Chioccioli. Each Pratesi wine label has as its subject a painting by the artist Marcello Scuffi who suggested the name of a wine: Il Circo Rosso.
