Ancient noble family of Venetian origin, the Fuligni moved to the United Kingdom around 1300, to go and captain a company of fortune in the pay of Edward III. Subsequently, during the Habsburg period, Luigi Fuligni came as army general in Tuscany new rulers, receiving, in the 1770s, large concessions of land after he pledged to clean up the same. Thus was born the bond of the Fuligni family with the lands of Tuscany.Located on the eastern slope of the hill, the Montalcino winery was founded in 1923 to be exact, and has about ten hectares of vineyards, placed in "I Cottimelli", at an altitude varying between 380 and 450 meters sea level. The soils rich in skeleton consist mainly of tuffs and clays, and boast an optimal exposure to the South-East, with a perfect climate for the ripening of the grapes. The grapes harvested in the various company vineyards are vinified separately, based on the differences in soil composition and exposure, and then blends are carried out in consideration of the type of wine to be obtained. The estate is currently managed by Maria Flora Fuligni, who makes use of the oenological consultancy of Paolo Vagaggini, while Federico Ricci is the agronomic management of the vineyard.Fuligni produces the classic wines of the area: a Rosso di Montalcino DOC, the "Ginestreto", which bears the name of the cru from which the grapes come, a Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, and in the best years the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG. The range also includes a Toscana Rosso IGT, obtained from clusters of Sangiovese and Merlot, for a total average production of about 50,000 bottles per year.Experience, deep passion for one's work and unconditional love for one's lands and vineyards are the secret of the success of Fuligni wines.
