Barolo "Sperss" is a famous label from the Gaja winery, produced since 1988 from the vineyards of Serralunga d’Alba.

The name Sperss derives from the Piedmontese dialect and means nostalgia. Born in the Barbaresco area, the Gaja winery was then able to acquire parcels of particular value also in the lands of Barolo. As an innovator and experimenter, Angelo Gaja has always put his best energies at the service of the search for uncompromising quality. Today his wines represent the absolute excellence of Italian production and his name is known among the greats of the world of wine. The grapes come from the Marenca and Rivette vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba and are grown on fine clay-limestone marls. Fermentation takes place in steel and the wine ages for 12 months in barrique and for a further 12 months in large oak barrels.

Barolo Sperss 2013 is a wine of great consistency, austere, with an excellent fruity component of a varietal character: black cherry, tar, a touch of truffle and licorice. In the mouth it shows fullness of body, very dense texture, great complexity. Very long-lived wine will give its best after a few years in the bottle.
