in the early 1950s, the passion for music, travel and good food had led Giuseppe Tasca d'Almerita to get to know some of the best wines in the world. Descendant of a family that as early as the nineteenth century had been mentioned in the agriculture manuals for innovative methods in the name of sustainability ante litteram, Count Giuseppe was convinced, however crazy an idea it might seem, that even in rural hinterland of Sicily it was possible to make a wine that could compete with the great French reds.

When in 1959 he planted the vines of Perricone and Nero d'Avola on the San Lucio hill, he was investing in a future that few Sicilians could imagine, creating the basis for the first single vine wine. Thus was born in 1970 his wine, the Riserva del Conte.

The word Riserva appeared on the label only until 1977, the year in which it gave way to Rosso del Conte.

Today, after forty years, Riserva del Conte is back, this time alongside Rosso del Conte, Riserva del Conte 2010 is produced from Perricone and Nero d'Avola grapes from the San Lucio vineyard, precisely that of Count Giuseppe.

In a reference to the origins, it is aged in chestnut, in 500 liter tonneaux. The result is a powerful wine, austere in its youth thanks to the strong tannins conferred by the chestnut, elegant and innovative.

He is a Sicilian gentleman, of few words, but of an important eloquence when choosing the right moment to express himself. 7,964 bottles of the Riserva del Conte 2010 were produced. With this collector's wine, we want to pay homage to the challenge that Count Giuseppe faced sixty years ago: to make a Sicilian wine well able to compete with the top of the world wine production.
