The vineyards of Poggio Antico have an average altitude of 480 metres above sea level and are among the highest in the Brunello production area. The considerable altitude, together with the proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea, ensures the presence of a constant breeze which has a beneficial effect both in the hottest and rainiest years. This unique and privileged position gives the wines an incomparable elegance and complexity. The soil is rocky and calcareous and therefore has good drainage. Vineyard grassing is practiced to improve humidity conservation, increase biodiversity and regenerate the soil. The farm extends over 200 hectares, 33 of which are used as vineyards. Most of these are cultivated with Sangiovese, the characteristic grape of the Brunello appellation. The vineyards, carefully planted with a south/southwest exposure, are all located within the property, thus consisting of a single body surrounding the winemaking cellar.
