The Roccapesta winery is a point of reference in the Scansano area: a lively production reality that is driving the enhancement of the Morellino di Scansano, with robust and structured interpretations of great elegance. Its origins date back to the 1970s and today it is led by Alberto Tanzini, a talented and attentive producer with a passion for Sangiovese and Maremma.
The vineyards of the Roccapesta winery cover almost 20 hectares at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level, on hard soils, where stones mix with clay and represent a perfect combination of Scansano's wine tradition and modern experimentation: the younger plantings of 2003 are flanked by very old vines, such as the Calestaia, with vines over 40 years old. We are on the border between areas of volcanic origin, near Monte Amiata, and areas of sedimentary origin, created with the ancient retreat of the Tyrrhenian Sea. This heterogeneity is the great resource on which Alberto has always focused, trying to make the most of and get the most out of every single vineyard.
Roccapesta's wines are born from production techniques that are in strict continuity with the Maremma winemaking tradition: the vines are grown organically and only indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation, without the addition of oenological additives or the use of chemicals. The long fermentations, the refinements in large barrels and the prolonged pauses in the bottle are the fixed points of a production philosophy aimed at obtaining elegant, long-lived, powerful and structured wines.
