1981 is the year in which the Marquis Lodovico Antinori founded Ornellaia, in the heart of the Bolgheri area, a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. With the first harvest of 1985 was born what will become an icon among the Super Tuscans: the "Ornellaia", put on the market three years later, in 1988. With the inauguration of the company, the world-famous winemaker, Michel Rolland, begins to take care of the technical part of the cellar. Subsequently, in the 90s the other two labels were born: "Le Volte" and "Le Serre Nuove".At the beginning of 2000, Robert Mondavi, the great Californian producer, acquires the estate, then selling 50% to Marchesi de 'Frescobaldi, who will buy the other 50% only three years later. Today, after a very successful journey, the winery is still run by the Frescobaldi group.
With Ornellaia, Bolgheri currently hosts more than one hundred hectares of vines, fully cared for and structured to pursue a single great goal: to produce a high quality wine. The attention to the smallest details in every moment of production, from the harvest of the grapes to the processing, from the initial selection to the final bottling, guarantees excellent results as nothing is ever left to chance. During the harvest, a first important selection takes place in the choice of the bunches: only the finest and most balanced Ornellaia vineyard can be processed in the cellar separately depending on the cru of origin. The Ornellaia wines rest for about a year in cask, followed by the composition of the blend. Every taste, every choice, every decision is aimed at enhancing the characteristic nuances of the terroir.
