Teruzzi is a company founded over 40 years ago, more precisely in 1974, set in a spectacular landscape context: the gentle slopes of San Gimignano in Tuscany. From the very beginning, the objective of its founders was to produce wines of great level, privileging native grape varieties in full respect of the local history and oenological tradition.Currently the company occupies about 180 hectares, 94 of which are represented by the most precious resource, the vineyard.According to data recently collected, 60 hectares are planted with Vernaccia grapes, which guarantees Teruzzi the primacy of a private company with the largest Vernaccia vineyard in the world.Obviously the company is one of the 77 producers of Vernaccia di San Gimignano to which the Consortium of the same name belongs, which aims to enhance and promote research and development of its products. After all, the town is linked to the world of wine, as evidenced by the frescoes, paintings and tapestries scattered throughout the town, dating back to medieval times. From the enotechnical point of view, the company has a great density of planting, equal to 6600 vines per hectare. The purpose of this crowding is certainly to be found in the objective of a high quality of the final product, the grapes.A higher density in fact allows a lower quantity of raw material per single vine, thus concentrating the substances inside the berry that will subsequently guarantee wines of the highest quality standards. The vineyards of the reds (about 21 hectares) are composed of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Alicante and Colorino. As for the whites, in addition to the already mentioned Vernaccia, we find Trebbiano Toscano and the international Chardonnay and Sauvignon.
