The 2017 vintage will remain in history as one of the hottest and most dry. This could already be expected from a particularly mild winter with temperatures over three degrees above the seasonal average and with normal rainfall. As a result the budding occurred with a great advance of almost two weeks. The vegetative cycle of the vineyards was accompanied by hot weather with scarce rainfall already in March, barely interrupted by a sudden drop in temperatures at the end of April, which brought frosts in numerous areas of Tuscany. On the coast, thanks to the proximity of the sea, the temperatures remained above zero, without creating any damage to the growing shoots. Already in May the heat and drought have returned limiting the vegetative development and the size of the bunches, despite the flowering took place in excellent condition. July and August were very hot and saw almost no rain, fortunately cooled by night temperatures. The harvest began early with the first Merlots on 24 August, continuing until the last week of September in sunny and warm weather. Towards the middle of the month rains finally arrived to cool the temperature, creating excellent conditions for late vines.
