The most important of the wines produced by Ruffino was born in 1947 to celebrate not only the twentieth anniversary of his already known "Riserva Ducale" but also to commemorate a great harvest and to show the exceptional longevity of his Chianti Classico. Since then, the “Riserva Ducale Oro” has been produced only in the vintages considered to be exceptional, those capable of evolving gracefully not only for years but also for decades. Starting in 2011, with an important and famous change to the specification, it became Gran Selezione, one of the most important wines of the entire denomination. The grapes are selected and harvested by hand in the Ruffino del Chianti Classico, Gretole, Castellina and Montemasso estates. It is a wine that is left to mature for 36 months, 12 of which in large oak barrels. The wine then spends another six months in the bottle before being placed on the market.
