HISTORYThe Godart company was created in 1948 with Paul, his elder brother along with his two brothers André and Jean. It is thanks to Paul’s impulse that after spending 23 years working in the Moët et Chandon winery, he begins winemaking in the family business. Since those years the wines have gradually developed and modernized, the result of the diversity of plots, terroirs and winemaking techniques. This mix of factors together with the skilful hand of oenologist Laurie Marteau makes the Champagne of Godart et Fils special and unique. Today the company is in the hands of Paul's son, Fraçois who carries it on with the same values and knowledge of the past, with the desire to go further and further by producing wines that respect the environment and customer tastes.
VALUESDiversity: The properties extend over 6.3 hectares in the Moussy, Pierry, Chavot, Vinay and Bergères les Vertus crus. The surface is divided into 35 plots with different characteristics of exposure and nature of the soil, mainly calcareous and clayey-calcareous which give finesse and roundness to the wines. Tradition: Each step from the vineyard to bottling is carried out following the know-how and the traditional scheme of Champagne production. Quality: The vineyards that enter into the production of Champagne Godart et Fils, for their variety, and for how they are processed, are worthy of the balance sought by the most prestigious Champagne companies
PRODUCTIONTwo words appear on the labels of Champagne Godart et Fils: RM (Récoltant manipulant) and Vigneron Indépendant. It means that the winegrower produces and markets Champagne under his own label, starting from grapes coming exclusively from his vineyards and processed in his cellars. These are the cornerstones of the company that wants to leave its mark entirely in the Champagne produced. Since 2018 the vineyards have been certified H.V.E (High Environmental Value), a reward for the commitment to respect the environment and biodiversity, a sign of respect and attachment to the land. The current production is 25,000 bottles per year, the vinification of the cuvées takes place according to the original principles of Champagne, with minimal malolactic fermentation. The two Liquer de tirage are produced directly in the company, one with a Chardonnay base and one with a Pinot Noir base, which are then used according to the type of cuvée. All this to allow Godart wines to develop a character of elegance, freshness and vitality.
