HISTORYTenuta di Tollena is located in a region where everything seems to be dedicated to excellence, in the hills around San Gimignano. The owners Barbara Berandi and Fabrizio Giotti, driven by a passion for wine, wanted to buy the estate in 2004, thus fulfilling the famous "dream in the drawer", passed on to the following generations. Barbara, a smiling Emilian in love with Tuscany, has shaped her little Eden since she moved in. Indeed, it is she, a tenacious woman with a passion for her work, who personally supervises everything that concerns the production and sale of the wines. Thanks to the work of Barbara and her collaborators in the vineyard and in the cellar, Tollena's products are contemporary interpretations of traditional Tuscan viticulture which, with their character, express a consistently excellent quality.THE FARMThe building where the winery is located today was an old 19th century manor house that has been completely renovated keeping the original architecture intact. The estate covers a total area of 66 hectares, of which 22 hectares are devoted to vineyards, 6 hectares to olive groves, 27 hectares to arable land and the remaining hectares to woods. It is here that the current owners have created the winery according to the principles of the most advanced winemaking techniques, completely renovating the rooms and facilities for processing, storing and ageing the wine. It is in these cellars that the wine is born, refined and gains wisdom. Every year the estate produces wine and oil, reaching a level of quality that can satisfy the most demanding palates. Old vineyards over 60 years old are flanked by younger vineyards planted since 2004. By experimenting with the use of different grape varieties and customising each wine, while respecting and safeguarding tradition, production is strongly focused on identity. The wines, especially the Vernaccia, are distinguished by their flavour and minerality. And the names are linked to the family, such as "Pitto", which is the nickname of the owner, and "Signorina Vittoria", the eldest daughter of the family.
