Poggio al Granchio is a magical place for its environmental and landscape value; it is a narrow valley on the south-east ridge of Montalcino that descends towards Sant’Antimo. It is the area that reaches the highest altitudes for the vineyards of the Ilcinese hill. It is a sun-kissed vineyard of morning and which is subject to the strong influence of Monte Amiata (former volcano and sacred mountain for the Etruscans) that stands out right in front of it. This area of Montalcino is characterized by very rich soils in galestro, particularly precious for Brunello. On the galestro the Sangiovese becomes mineral, sapid, with silky tannins; the nose is expressed with notes of ripe undergrowth fruit, combined with that unmistakable hint of flint that can also be perceived by smelling these shales. The wines in the mouth have a subtle, elegant but decisive entrance, resulting in savory and mineral. Here the Brunello is dark in color and has great potential for aging. Its name "Poggio al Granchio" derives from a very small pond in the center of the property, under an imposing holm oak, where there are nice and lively freshwater crabs inside.

Intense ruby red color with purple notes. The nose is a real explosion of fresh fruit with flavors of cherry in spirit, currant, blackberry and myrtle. In the mouth it has this unmistakable subtle entry with silky, very long tannins. It has a sapid and mineral finish that only this area is able to offer to Sangiovese.
