The Etna Rosso "Feudo di Mezzo" wine represents oenological excellence, the fruit of the ancient Nerello Mascalese vines with slight additions of Nerello Cappuccio, carefully cultivated in the Contrada Feudo di Mezzo in Castiglione di Sicilia. With only 2200 specimens produced, this cru has an alcohol content of 14% and stands out for its unique terroir: the volcanic, sandy and mineral-rich soil, the vines aged between 80 and 100 years and the altitude of 670 meters above sea level. The surface area dedicated to this wine is a careful selection of just 0.76 hectares, exposed on the northern slopes of Etna. With a planting density of 4500 vines per hectare and the sapling training system, the yield is limited to 20 quintals per hectare. The harvest takes place manually in the second half of October, followed by spontaneous fermentation with the natural yeasts present on the grapes, at controlled temperatures between 28°C and 30°C, with maceration on the skins for 15 days. Malolactic fermentation completes spontaneously in spring. The refinement takes place in 10hl barrels and used tonneaux for 18 months, followed by a further 6 months of refinement in the bottle before marketing. A wine of great complexity and character, which fully reflects the Etna area and the art of its producers.
