Barbera d’Alba "Vignota" 2018

The Barbera d'Alba "Vignota" of Conterno Fantino is an important version of this classic and popular red wine of the great Piedmontese tradition, aged in barriques for 10 months. The ageing in wood, gives the Barbera an elegant and harmonious profile, with a softer and more balanced sip. The exuberance of the fruit finds a perfect balance in the notes of tertiary evolution, which soften its typical varietal characteristics.

The "Vignota" of Conterno Fantino is born in the heart of the Langhe. The winery is located in the splendid hilly territory of Monforte d'Alba. Here, in addition to numerous versions of Barolo, Conterno also produces other traditional wines of the territory. Barbera has always had a prominent place on Piedmontese tables and Fantino Conterno wanted to reinterpret it in a version that could highlight its true potential, in the sign of elegance and longevity. The grapes come from Guyot vines with a density of about 5,500 plants per hectare, on calcareous-clayey soils, with south-east and south-west exposure at an altitude ranging from 200 to 400 meters above sea level. Fermentation takes place in horizontal stainless steel winemakers, with fermentation on the skins lasting 6-8 days. It matures for 10 months in barriques of second passage in order to favour micro-oxygenation, without the transfer of wood aromas.

The "Vignota" Barbera of the Piedmontese winery of Conterno Fantino is an interpretation that enhances the more mature and complex qualities of the Barbera, showing how it is able to produce multifaceted, rich and harmonious reds, without betraying the varietal peculiarities. The colour is bright ruby red. The perfumes express notes of violet, aromas of cherries in spirit, spices and liquorice root. On the palate it has a good structure, with a soft and rich fruit, subtle tannins and a balanced fresh finish.
